Focus on durability of shock absorbers

Magnum Shock Technology are present on the Polish market since
2004. Product is developed by experienced engineers who give You some useful advices about shock absobers durability
Presented tips can help You to avoid the most common mistakes that affect the reduced lifetime of shock absorbers.

Tips are provided below about avoiding the most common mistakes, which lead to a reduced lifespan shock absorbers. Typical shock absorber faults include:
– oil leaks,
– noise,
– mechanical damage.
In this issue of IC News we will focus on the first of these problems. Oil leaks most often occur as a result oil seal failure. Mostly In most cases, they are caused by damage to the surface of the shock absorber piston rod. The most common recurring assembly error is scratches on the piston rod.

The above defect occurs as a result of holding the shock absorber piston rod with a tool (pliers, pliers, etc.) during its operation – installation in the vehicle. As a consequence, the sealant breaks causing oil loss and reduced efficiency shock absorber damping. To avoid this no must not be held by any tool shock absorber piston rod during assembly.

The second reason for oil leakage can be chips of the chrome coating of the piston rod.

This type of damage occurs as a result dust cover or bumper (stroke length limiter) is worn. It leads it to rupture of the sealant and formation loss of oil reducing the damping forces shock absorber. Therefore, during assembly shock absorbers, it is necessary to check the condition of the covers anti-dust and fenders. In case of any damage to these elements, they must be replaced without fail. The next defect may be abrasion of the chrome coating of the piston rod.

It arises as a result of transferring a significant lateral stress. Incorrect stress distribution leads to rupture sealant and damage to the guide sleeve. This damage causes oil loss and reduced damping efficiency shock absorber. Therefore, you must remember to finally tighten the shock absorber when the vehicle stands on wheels. A frequent problem may also be heavy dirt under the overlay, which is formed on due to wear of the dust cover or stop (stroke length limiter).

As a result of the ingress of dirt, the chrome surface is wiped off and the so-called pits that lead to damage to the sealant, causing cavities oil and reducing the damping efficiency of the shock absorber. So it’s important to always check the condition of the dust covers and bumpers. In case of any damage, they must be replaced without fail. The presented situations concern only the most common causes of leakage shock absorber oil.
